This Christmas carol’s origin is, quite unexpectedly, a pagan Ukrainian chant thought to have magical powers because of the way in which its rhythms integrate the number 3 through the use of a hemiola; whereby the rhythmic accents in each measure alternate from 3/4 to 6/8 time and back. Also, the song’s use of an ostinato motif – a repeated 4-note pattern within the range of the minor third – was believed to also endow the performer with magical powers and wisdom. Unfortunately, these important ornaments were completely lost in the Anglicized arrangements most familiar to modern audiences. This new arrangement reintroduces these age-old rhythms to today’s listeners.

Ukrainian Bell Carol (Carol of the Bells)

Fantastico! Mr. Radnich did a very nice job here. This arrangement of "Carol of the Bells" has its own personal style and breakes up with the traditional 3/4 time as originally notated. An extensive summary would take too much space and time. I recommend it to everyone, whose skill Level is Advanced at least, may has some Jarrod-experience and of course Likes Good Christmas carols ;)

Incredibly as always!

This piece is awesome because throughout it, a lot of musical tension is gathering, and the end is absolutely explosive, full of rythm and colorful. Typical for Jarrod!

Beautiful

This is such an amazing arrangement by Jarrod Radnich! I would recommend this to anyone looking for a beautiful and difficult Christmas piece.
