Giles' poignant version of this 16th century English text is set in the traditional English carol form with verses and a "burden" or refrain. The frequent unison lines are laced with chromatic turns of phrase, illuminating the passion inherent in this prayer. Only at the text "Blessed Jesu" does Giles expand the texture vertically to bring special attention to the name of Jesus.
